CRITICAL THINKING & APPLIED MATH PROGRAM
“I don’t like Math because it is all about numbers and symbols; there are plenty of formulas with difficult problems to solve. It’s even worse when I learn a lot but still don’t know what it is for,” many students respond when asked about learning Math. Understanding this worry, STEMHOUSE introduces a completely different program named CRITICAL THINKING AND APPLIED MATH aiming at inspiring and supporting young learners, especially those who are trying their best to prepare for the entrance exam to Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.
During the course, students will not only test their ability with “strange and difficult” math problems from prestigious national and international contests but also learn to deal with practical issues which at first seem to have no connection with math. That is APPLIED MATH, a type of math that is used to solve problems in everyday life, not something theoretical or abstract. However, in order to solve these problems successfully, students need to both know Math knowledge and understand it clearly to flexibly turn a practical issue into an appropriate Math model to process it. At the same time, students are trained to acquire other skills and abilities such as logical thinking, spatial imagination or the ability to combine and analyze data…. particularly, creativity and patience when dealing with challenges, which not many students can experience in a normal classroom due to lack of time.
Each session in class is a chance for students to experience a competitive learning environment with open-mindedness, friendliness and individual respect, where they step by step improve themselves and overcome their own limitations.
Students in Grade 3 and 4 who want to:
- Take the entrance exam to Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted
- Take part in international math competitions: UKMT, SASMO, SIMOC, AMO…
- Explore the unique beauty of Math.
