A-LEVEL – SCIENCE EXAM REGISTRATION IN VIETNAM
A-Level is one of the popular choices for international students when preparing to study abroad. With a systematic and globally recognized curriculum, A-Level offers quality learning opportunities for those who dream of studying abroad. Where to study A-Level to ensure quality? How to register for the A-Level exam? Parents and students can find out below!
Stemhouse is delighted to announce that, after many efforts of communication and proposals, the British Council has officially allowed registration for A-Level Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) of the Pearson Edexcel examination board. This is an important step, opening up great opportunities for independent candidates in Vietnam who are pursuing this program.
What is A-Level?
A-Level (Advanced Level) or GCEA Level (General Certificate of Education Advanced Level) is a basic education certificate awarded by Education Authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to 16-19 year old students before entering university.
Typically, students will begin the A-Level program after completing the Cambridge IGCSE. The A-Level program lasts for 2 years, including:
- In the first year (equivalent to grade 11), students are allowed to choose 4 to 6 subjects at AS Level. At the end of this school year, they can take the AS Level exam.
- In the second year (equivalent to grade 12), students can choose from 3 to 5 subjects to complete the A Level certificate.
This is a flexible educational program, allowing students to freely choose subjects that suit their personal learning orientation and path.
Subjects in A-Level
A-Level has more than 55 subjects for students to choose from, depending on their abilities and interests. These subjects are divided into 9 main content groups: English, Mathematics, Science, Languages, Humanities, Technology, Social Sciences, Arts and General Education. From these groups, each school will choose different subject combinations to teach.
Students can refer to the following methods to choose the appropriate subject based on:
- Interests or talents: This way of choosing helps you maintain your inspiration for studying. For example, if you like drawing, you can choose Art & Design to get your A-Level certificate.
- Future career path: Students who wish to work in Business Administration should choose Economics or Business subjects that complement their future career.
Avoid choosing subjects that are too similar in knowledge: Many universities only consider one subject in the same major such as Economics or Business. Students should avoid choosing subjects that are too similar to optimize their time and learning experience.
Who should choose A-Level?
The A-Level certificate is suitable for students who want to study abroad in Australia, Singapore, European countries, some schools in North America or want to apply to top universities in Vietnam. Instead of studying a wide range of subjects like in other programs, A-Level allows students to choose and focus on key subjects in the major they want to pursue. The program is also suitable for students who want to save time preparing for university, because students can start studying A-Level right after grade 10.
Overall, A-Level is a suitable choice for many different types of students thanks to its flexibility and international value. However, with the amount of knowledge equivalent to the first year of some bachelor’s training programs, families should consider and arrange their children’s time and health reasonably.
A-Level qualification creditability
A-Level certificates are widely recognized and highly valued globally. With a rigorous and quality training program, A-Level is favored by prestigious universities around the world. Students with A-Level certificates can:
- Get credits equivalent to one year of university tuition waiver in the world.
- Easily get scholarships to top universities in the world such as Cambridge, Oxford, Ivy League schools (USA), Sydney, Melbourne (Australia), NUS, Nanyang (Singapore), Toronto (Canada), …
- Be recognized and given priority for recruitment at multinational corporations and companies.
- Have many opportunities to study, work and develop yourself in an international environment.
In Vietnam, leading universities such as Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, University of Science and Technology, Foreign Trade University, National Economics University, VinUniversity, RMIT… also recognize admission by A-Level certificate.
A-Level certificates are valid indefinitely. Therefore, this is not only a “passport” to prestigious universities, but also brings many open study and job opportunities for students.
Where to study A-Level?
With 10 years of experience in training international programs, Stemhouse is proud to provide prestigious and quality A-Level courses in Mathematics, English and Science.
- A team of highly qualified teachers, with full degrees from universities in the right major, many years of teaching experience and English proficiency from C1 level of the European framework or higher. Teachers not only teach but also accompany and closely follow students throughout the learning process.
- The class is designed with a small scale, creating conditions for each student to receive dedicated attention and guidance. This not only helps improve efficiency but also brings optimal learning experiences for students.
- The learning path is clearly designed based on the students’ abilities. The curriculum is compiled systematically and continuously updated, helping students grasp each topic of the program (learning mastery). In addition, the center is committed to supporting if students do not progress.
Breakthrough
Previously, independent candidates could not register for AS and A-Level Science exams in Vietnam due to the laboratory requirements in Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) exams. Therefore, if Vietnamese candidates wanted to register for the exam, they would often have to go to neighboring countries such as Singapore or Malaysia with expensive accommodation and travel costs (because each exam paper is spread out over nearly a month). However, with this innovation, candidates can now complete 6 paper-based Science exams right in Vietnam, saving significant time and costs.
Registration process
To register for the A-Level exam, students need to contact international schools that organize A-Level exams. In Vietnam, independent candidates can register through the British Council at the website below:
