TEACHING ENGLISH BY APPLYING TPR METHOD

OVERVIEW OF TPR

TPR is the abbreviation for Total Physical Response, a language teaching method developed by psychology professor James Asher, at San José State University. This is a method based on the combination of language and physical movement, helping children develop language naturally and absorb lessons more effectively.

Exposure to language through sounds, images, and movements makes children’s brain connections to words become stronger, and thus remember them longer. At the same time, when the body moves, the child’s brain will be alert and have more energy to learn.

TPR is researched based on 03 fundamental scientific hypotheses:

  • Language is learned primarily through listening
  • Language learning requires the participation of the right hemisphere of the brain
  • Learners must feel comfortable and happy

ADVANTAGES OF TEACHING ENGLISH USING THE TPR METHOD AT STEMHOUSE

For English class, not only will you repeat what I say and do one-way exercises, your child will experience the TPR method – Total Physical Response. In a learning environment with foreign teachers, children can directly practice the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing according to the Cambridge standard LOOK curriculum. With only 10 students per class plus a teaching assistant, children will only be able to communicate in English and all students must participate in class activities to absorb the lessons most attentively.

Through sounds, images and movements, your child’s brain connection to words will become stronger, and thereby remember them longer. At the same time, exercising a lot helps children be more alert and have more energy to absorb lessons. Children learn vocabulary and grammar “with all their heart”, and must use their whole body for this lesson.
